3.7 - Encourage federal or state governments to purchase easements on lands needed to open wildlife corridors

Text from the Recreational Hunting and Wildlife Conservation Plan, 2008, Page 9

Encourage federal or state governments to purchase easements on lands needed to open wildlife corridors, conserve priority wildlife species habitat or to provide access to otherwise inaccessible or difficult to reach federal lands for hunting and other wildlife dependent recreational activities.

Assessment of Status: Partially Complete

Making Public Lands Public legislation has been introduced which would require that $10 million ($5 million to USDA and $5 million to the Department of the Interior) or 1.5% of the amount appropriated (whichever is greater) to the Land and Water Conservation Fund annually be dedicated to creating access to federal lands for recreation. Additionally, the President’s 2013 Budget proposed $5 million to the USDA and $5 million to the Department of the Interior for Making Public Lands Public projects.
