Western Association of Fish & Wildlife Agencies Prairie Grasslands Ecosystem Initiative

The Western Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies' Grassland Initiative (WGI) is an example of a grasslands initiative that used an MOU between states and federal agencies as a starting place to coordinate conservation, and then transitioned to an ecosystem conservation approach of grassland ecosystems. In 2011 the WGI integrated companion, species-specific efforts (prairie dog, black-footed ferret, etc.) to a broader conservation effort.
